About Donna Liguria Art

Donna Liguria is a Virginia-based, largely self-taught artist whose passion for acrylic painting has evolved into a distinctive style of painted realism and photorealism. Working primarily on canvas, she creates landscapes, seascapes, wildlife, pet portraits, and historic architecture, capturing the beauty of places, nature, and the changing effects of light with exceptional attention to detail.

A native Virginian, Donna was born in Alexandria and spent much of her life throughout Central Virginia, including Louisa, Richmond, Charlottesville, and Roanoke, with a brief time living in Greensboro, North Carolina. She returned to Northern Virginia in 2007, where she continues to draw inspiration from the region's rich history, scenic landscapes, and vibrant communities.

Although Donna explored art throughout her life, her professional journey included careers in the restaurant industry, mural painting, and information technology. Following the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent retirement in 2020, she devoted herself fully to painting. She immediately joined the Prince William Art Society, where she found an active community of fellow artists that further inspired her artistic growth.

Working primarily in acrylics on canvas, Donna strives to "paint it as real as it can be." She is inspired by vibrant color, rich textures, sunlight, and dramatic shadows, carefully translating these elements into paintings that invite viewers to experience both the beauty and emotion of each subject. Her favorite collections include a historic series of notable Virginia homes and a four-season series featuring iconic Washington, DC landmarks.

Donna's work has been recognized with numerous awards, including ribbons at regional exhibitions and several People's Choice Awards, reflecting both technical achievement and public appreciation.

Committed to lifelong learning, Donna continues to study fine art techniques while expanding her knowledge of the business of art. Beyond painting, she enjoys gardening and pursuing other creative interests that continually influence her work.

Donna is currently a member of the Prince William Art Society (PWAS) and Falls Church Arts, and is a former member of the Manassas Art Guild (MAG) and Crossroads Arts Alliance (CAA). She is passionate about supporting and promoting artists throughout Prince William County while actively exhibiting her own work in regional galleries, art festivals, and juried exhibitions.

In addition to painting, Donna is the creator and writer of the Donna's Cave Painting Blog, where she publishes articles on painting techniques, artistic inspiration, the business of art, and showcases her newest works. She also served as Social Media Manager for the Prince William Art Society from 2021 through June 2026, helping expand the organization's visibility and engagement within the local arts community.

Whether portraying a beloved pet, a peaceful shoreline, a historic landmark, or a vibrant landscape, Donna's goal is to create paintings that preserve meaningful moments and invite viewers to pause, reflect, and appreciate the beauty found in both nature and history.
